BITE Model: Hassan developed the BITE model to help people determine whether or not a group is practicing destructive mind control. The BITE model helps people understand how cults suppress individual member's uniqueness and creativity. BITE stands for the cult's control of an individual's Behavior, Intellect, Thoughts, and Emotions. In addition to the original BITE model, there is now a Trafficking BITE Model as well as a Terrorism BITE model.
Strategic Interactive Approach: He has pioneered a breakthrough approach called the Strategic Interactive Approach (SIA) to help loved ones rescue cult mind control victims. Unlike stressful and sensationalized "deprogramming", this non-coercive method is an effective and legal alternative for families to help cult members. SIA teaches family and friends how to strategically influence the individual involved in the cult. Using this unique technique, Hassan has helped thousands of people victimized by destructive cult-related mind control groups. To see Steven explain the SIA live, click here.
Ending The Game (ETG): Hassan, along with Rachel Thomas, M. Ed, Carissa Phelps JD/MBA, and D’Lita Miller, co-developed Ending the Game, a non-coercive curriculum designed to educate and empower commercial sex trafficking victims. Ending The Game© is a 1st-of-its-kind “coercion resiliency” curriculum that reduces feelings of attachment to traffickers and/or a lifestyle characterized by commercial sexual exploitation, thereby reducing the rate of recidivism among sex trafficking survivors.
Lectures: During his many years of work, Hassan has provided numerous training workshops and seminars for mental health professionals, educators, and law enforcement officers worldwide, as well as for families of cult members. Steven was a featured speaker and at the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2009 National Amber Alert Symposium, where he explained why victims don’t flee and how children abductors convince victims to stay. In 2013, Hassan participated training over 600 Law Enforcement professionals at the Joint Regional Intelligence Center in California on human trafficking. Hassan has also given innumerable lectures to universities, colleges, churches and synagogues, junior high schools, high schools, youth organizations, and other civic and community groups including: Harvard University, UCLA, Yale University, Stanford University, John Hopkins University, MIT, Hong Kong University, American Psychological Association Convention (2001), American Psychological Association Eastern Regional Convention (2001), The American Counseling Association National Convention, and The American Bar Association’s Conference on Tort and Religion.
Media Coverage: With almost 40 years of cult awareness activism, Hassan’s insightful perspective and expert commentary have made him the definitive source for hundreds of national and international media outlets including: 60 Minutes, CNN, Fox News, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Newsweek, Night Line, NPR, Oprah Winfrey Show, The O’Reilly Factor, The Today Show, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Washington Post.
